Neverseconds

Hi!! It's getting colder day by day:(
I really feel that winter is coming soon!

And today, I want to introduce you about the popular blog written by a girl!
I hope you'll also have a look at it when you have time!

About NeverSeconds

★What do you think of Martha Payne and what she accomplished?
I think that it is a great achievement for a young girl and I'm very surprised!!
Very interesting that she focused on school lunch. By looking at her blog pictures, I can see that there are various school lunch. I was very happy to see many Japanese lunch in her blog. Her blog is read by so many people all over the world and I would also be happy if people reading them becomes interested in Japanese school lunch, or even just know about how it is. Actually, school lunch differes between countries and I was also astonished!

★What are your memories of your school lunches?
I used to have school lunch when I was in elementary school and junior high school. I didn't like school lunch because we have to eat everything that is served, even meals that we don't  like. When I was young, I used to have many things I didn't like for example, the greasy part of meat and eggplant and more. School meals are thought of nutrition and has to be healthy, therefore there are many kinds of food in them.

★Did you feel that you had any input on the nature or quality of your school lunches?
I think there were input from local foods made near our school. This was done in our school because eating food that were made near are fresh and there are no need to use much pesticides which makes it healthier than food made far away like abroad.

★What do you think of the dining facilities at AGU and how do you think they can be improved?
I think they're fine. Especially, I like the idea of making menus with lots of vegetables. Of course there are menus using lots of meat and calories, but because we could choose what to eat, I think there aren't any problems.

★What creative way(s) do you think we (individually or as AGU students) can help others in the world less fortunate than us...especially in connection to food?
I think the problem in the world is that some people don't get the chance to have enough food and get nutritioins from them. To improve their eating, we should be careful about wasting food. I think many people had the experience to buy too much food and throw them away, sometimes without eating or even opening the package. If we save food, I believe there are enough food for everyone in the world.
Other problems, I think there are countries that are not eating healthy, having chances. To those countries, I would somehow like to make them know how eating vegetables are important to the health and urge them to try eating that way.

Chapter 1

Hi! I've read chapter 1 in my book so far so I'd like to write about the interestings I learned from my book!

As I mentioned in my last post, chapter 1 is about men and cooking. The author was talking about the tendecy of men's cooking from the point of view from male cooking mystique.
In many families in America and in many other countries, cooking was a women's thing. It doesn't mean that men don't cook, but there are more cooking for women than men some what...!

One of the reason men don't cook as women is thought that men don't like to be thought as feminine by cooking. From this, we can see that there is an image of cooking=women? For example women like to cook of course lunch and dinner, but they really like to cook cakes and sweets. On the other hand, men is thought to be the cook only at barbecues and steaks, which makes them look masquline. I thought this fact was quite interesting.

Before I finish this post, I'd like to introduce a funny fact that was written, "Men sometimes cook meals other than steak and barbecue, but this event should be a rare event. When men do cook, no matter how simple the meal, it is caused for applause. If men desire to learn how to cook, they will be inevitably be better than any women can be." I thought this could be true for many men in the old days, but I think there are many people who cook recently. And I don't know if this part is pharsing, men or not, but this book is written in a women's point of view so...

I learned quite a few things in the first chapter, it was interesting! I'll try to read a little bit more before my next post and find other fact to introduce :)

Food blog

I'd like to introduce our food blog, Oh Lady Cakes. This blog is very interesting with about 60 recipes about vegan sweets, especially cakes and cookies.

Quality: I think the quality is high. Blog is written with many specific details. The format of the blog also looks good with many large pictures which stands out.

Usefulness: Useful. Easy to understand the recipe. The step of cooking is also very specific written which makes it easier for the reader to actually make them.

Visual attractive: Like I mentioned earlier, there are many pictures of the food author made which looks very good.
The picture looks as if a photographer took it and can enjoy by just looking at the delicious food. Also, the pictures are very big that I think many readers are attracted. However, I hope that the words were a little bit more bigger to make it more easier for the readers to read.

Accessibility of the language: The author talks as if she's talking to the reader so it's attractive. The instructions of the cooking is written in easy words so it's easy to understand.

How interesting is it to you personally: I think it's pretty interesting. I like the way there are several kind of episode are introduced with the recipes, for example making cookies to her boyfriend before they started dating.

book

My book is "Dinner Roles  -American women and culinary culture". I chose this book because I was interested in American dinner and how women took a part in it. What I know about this book so far is that it's about the relation between dinner and American women in the first half of the 20th century.
The first chapter talks about the relationship of cooking and men.
